John 1:4 & 9
4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men
9 There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.
As we saw yesterday, Christ is the Light of the world and He enlightens every man- He provides spiritual insight so that every man can see the truth of Him as Creator, Savior and Lord. Man was created to receive the Life and Light of God by faith in Christ Jesus so that He might shine in and through us.
However, as we will see in Genesis 3; when Adam sinned he plunged the whole world into spiritual darkness. Christ came to rescue us from the domain of darkness and to restore us to the kingdom of Light through His beloved Son- The King of Light. We become His luminaries as we receive Him and allow Him to live in and through us EVERY moment of EVERY day. Like the moon, we are not THE Light, but as we stay in His presence we reflect His Light to the world of darkness all around us. Like the moon, we cannot produce light apart from Christ.
How do you stay in the presence of Christ in the midst of a hassled and hurried world?
Who in your life is experiencing the Light of Christ through you?
John 3:19-21 19 “This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 “But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God.”
John 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
Acts 26:18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’
According to these passages how do we know whether we or someone else is truly walking in The Light?
Matthew 5:14 & 16 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Ephesians 5:8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
Acts 26:17b-18 …I am sending you, to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’
Are you “letting your light shine”, “walking as a child of the light” and “opening the eyes of the blind?”
The people around us are lost and groping around in the dark. Will we help rescue and restore them to the Light of the world?
Colossians 1:12-14 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. 13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
